World Junior Curling Championships 2012 Women's Medal Games

It took all the way to an extra end of a tense final, but Scotland eventually successfully defended the women’s World junior title on Sunday morning, beating the Czech Republic by 6-5 to take gold. Beside them, Russia ran Sweden out of stones in the tenth end, to win their game by 7-4 and take bronze for the second year in succession.

WCF President on constructive visit to China

On a recent visit to China, WCF President Kate Caithness had successful meetings with the Chinese Minister of Sport responsible for Winter Sports together with the Chinese Curling Association regarding the future development of the sport within China.

Oxana Slesarenko named IPC Athlete of the Month

Oxana Slesarenko, member of Russia’s Wheelchair Curling team, which won gold at the 2012 World Championships in Korea, has been voted the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Athlete of the Month for February after leading her squad to the 2012 World Championship title in Chuncheon, Korea.

The international curling focus will turn to Sweden when the World Junior Curling Championships 2012 get underway in Östersund, Sweden, on Saturday 3rd March.

Russia won the gold medal at the World Curling Wheelchair Championship 2012 in Chuncheon, South Korea on Saturday defeating hosts Korea 9-1 in the final. The Koreans took the silver medal. China won the bronze medal, winning their game against Slovakia 7-4.

The WCF would like to remind everyone that there are a number of courses taking place this coming spring / summer which still have availability.

World Wheelchair Curling Championship 2012

The event is for ten mixed gender teams: one from the host Association, seven qualify directly from the previous World Wheelchair Curling Championship (WWhCC) and two from the World Wheelchair Curling Qualification. At the WWhCC, teams gain qualification points for the Paralympic Winter Games. The next games will take place in Sochi, Russia in 2014.

Chuncheon ready for 2012 World Wheelchair Curling Championships

Play begins at the World Wheelchair Curling Championship 2012 on Sunday the 19th of February at the Uiam Ice Rink in Chuncheon, South Korea. Ten mixed national teams will compete in the event which is the second opportunity for the world’s top wheelchair curling teams to gather points for their nations to qualify for the 2014 Paralympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.

Pacific-Asia Junior Curling Championships 2012 Medal Games

The Japanese junior women’s team (skipped by Sayaka Yoshimura) won gold at the 2012 Pacific-Asia Junior Curling Championships at the Hwasan Ice Rink in Jeonju, South Korea on Thursday beating Korea in the final 3-2. The Chinese junior men’s team (skipped by Xiuyue Ma) won the gold medal in the junior men’s event with a 3-2 win over Korea.
