Semi-finals line-ups set at the 2017 Asian Winter Games

The round robin stage of both the men and women’s competitions at the 2017 Asian Winter Games, being held in Sapporo, Japan, has drawn to a close today (Tuesday 21 February).

In the men’s competition China, skipped by Rui Liu topped the round robin table with an undefeated record of five wins and no losses to claim the first place in the semi-final stage. Joining them in the semi-finals are Korea, who finished with a record of four wins and one loss and Japan with three wins and two losses.

Chinese Taipei, skipped by Randolph Shen, claimed the fourth semi-final spot when they defeated Kazakhstan, skipped by Viktor Kim, in the final round robin session by a score of 13-2. They would end the round robin stage with a record of two wins and three losses.

In the semi-final stage China will play Chinese Taipei while Korea will compete against Japan. The men’s semi-finals take place at 13.30 Wednesday 22 February

The women’s competition saw Korea, skipped by Eunjung Kim, remain undefeated throughout the round robin stage with a record of four wins and no losses to claim the first place in the semi-finals. They would conclude their round robin with an 18-1 victory over Kazakhstan where they would score in all but one of the eight ends played.

Joining Korea in the semi-finals are China who recorded three wins and one loss; Japan with two wins and two losses; and Kazakhstan who finished the round robin stage with one win and three losses.

In the semi-finals, Korea will face off against Kazakhstan, while China will play Japan. The women’s semi-finals take place at 18.00 on Wednesday 22 February.
The bronze medal games for both men and women take place on Thursday 23 February with the men’s game being played at 13.30 and the women’s game at 18.00.

The event concludes on Friday 24 February with the men’s gold medal games at 13.30 followed by the women’s gold medal game at 18.00. All times are Japan Standard time, nine hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time.

The Games are an international multi-sport event run by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) to develop winter sports within its area of coverage. The OCA has 45 member countries and regions in Asia. The games host 11 sporting disciplines, alpine skiing, biathlon, cross country skiing, curling, figure skating, freestyle skiing, ice hockey, short track speed skating, ski jumping, snowboard and speed skating.
