WCF ICE TECHNICIAN COURSE


DATES: Monday, 23 June 09:00 – 17:00 hrs.

Wednesday, 25 June 09:00 – 17:00 hrs.

Thursday, 26 June 09:00 – 17:00 hrs.

Friday, 27 June 09:00 – 12:30 hrs.


FEES: Euro € 150.00 includes instruction, some course material, and a WCF Ice Technician participation certificate. The new (revised) WCF Ice Technician Manual (Curling Ice Explained – CIE) will be available for purchase at the special price of € 50.00 each.

COURSE CONDUCTORS:


Leif Öhman: Head Ice Technician at World, World Junior and European Curling Championships for more than 15 years. Head Ice Technician at 1998, 2002 and 2006 Olympic Games. Educated as traffic and construction engineer. Member of the Executive Board of the WCF and the Swedish Curling Association.


Hans Wuthrich: Head Ice Technician at World, World Junior, Canadian and European Curling Championships for more than 15 years. Certified Level 4 Canadian Curling Association Ice Technician. Licensed for 200 tons+ refrigeration. Power Engineer’s Certificate , Manitoba, Canada. Head Ice Technician for the 2010 Olympic Games.



COURSE CONTENT: Using the new (revised) WCF Ice Technician Manual (Curling Ice Explained – CIE) numerous topics will be discussed and demonstrated:

  • The development of the game and its demand on curling ice

  • Specific definition of curling ice, game tactics

  • The floors of a curling rink

  • Measuring, painting and the lines

  • Actual ice installation

  • Flooding

  • Curling ice in an arena

  • Maintaining the ice pad (scraping, etc.)

  • Routines and equipment, end of season maintenance

  • Pebbling

  • Temperature and other readings

  • Humidity, heating and ventilation, lighting

  • Water, ice and curling stone quality

  • The refrigeration system and energy

  

WCF ADVANCED COACHING COURSE


DATES: Friday, 27 June 15:00 – 21:00 hrs.

Saturday, 28 June 09:00 – 17:00 hrs.

Sunday, 29 June 09:00 – 12:00 hrs.


FEES: Euro € 100.00 includes instruction, course material, and WCF Advanced Coaching participation certificate.


ENTRIES: This course is for experienced coaches who have completed the Level 1 or 2 WCF Coaching/Instructing courses, or who are certified coaches in their own countries and have coached teams at a competitive level.

COURSE CONTENT: “MAKING A TEAM GREATER THAN THE SUM OF ITS PARTS”

Technical – learn how to make four curling deliveries work in concert with one another to make more team shots, how to “guide stones down the ice” with advanced team brushing, to empower your athletes to turn their curling delivery into one that they understand much better and to be a better delivery clinician

Team Dynamics – learn to develop a “team communication protocol”

Mental Preparation – learn how to empower your athletes to support & protect their curling deliveries against “competitive breakdown”

Failing to Plan, Is Planning to Fail – learn how to construct your team’s preparation to peak at the right time – learn to conduct effective on-ice & off-ice practices

Strategy & Tactics – learn the difference between strategy & tactics and how to build game plans & end plans that work

Coaching – learn to “empower” your athletes to make them “greater than the sum of their parts”

The course will be “activity-based” with lots of “hands-on” sessions!
