| Leslie Ingram-Brown to receive World Curling Award |

OSTERSUND – Leslie Ingram-Brown of Scotland is the 2008 World Curling Freytag Award winner, as announced by the World Curling Federation.The award will be presented tomorrow in Ostersund, Sweden, during the opening reception of the 2008 World Junior Curling Championships, where Ingram-Brown is volunteering as an official. The award is a tribute to the late Elmer Freytag, an American founder of the International Curling Federation (now WCF). It honours individuals for distinguished service and major contributions to the development and advancement of international curling, or competitors for world-championship-level playing ability, sportsmanship, character and the achievement of extraordinary distinction. Born and educated in Glasgow, Ingram-Brown has spent his working life in the family firm of printing and publishing. At the age of 14 he left rugby to go curling and has never looked back since. His first joined his home curling club in 1967. Ingram-Brown has many years of experience as a curling volunteer and in curling administration. He has held office in most of the clubs of which he has been a member, including the posts of secretary, treasurer and president. He first joined the Council of the Royal Caledonian Curling Club Council in 1985 and was elected President in 1995. A keen fan as well as player, Ingram-Brown has been involved in many international events around the world. He was a volunteer at Glasgow-based World Championships in 1985 and 1988, and chaired the host committee of the 1991 World Juniors. For many years, Ingram-Brown has officiated in various umpiring capacities at numerous World, World Juniors and European Championships. He was also a member of the umpiring team for the Olympic Winter Games of 1998 in Nagano, 2002 in Salt Lake City and 2006 in Torino. Off the ice Ingram-Brown is a keen collector of lapel pins and has one of the largest collections in the curling world. |
