Andorra set and ready for European C-Division to begin

The European Curling Championships C-Division 2017 will begin on Monday (8 May) for teams looking to be promoted to the European Curling Championships B-Division. The event will be held in Andorra’s Palau de Gel d’Andorra.

Some eight women’s and ten men’s teams will be competing for two places in each of the women’s and men’s European Curling Championships B-Division 2017, which will be held in St Gallen, Switzerland, between 17 and 25 November.

The eight women’s teams are: Austria, Croatia, Ireland, Poland, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia and Spain.

The nine men’s teams are: hosts Andorra, Belarus, Bulgaria, Croatia, France, Ireland, Romania, Serbia and Spain.

Round-robin play will run from Monday 8 May until Friday 12 May. After the round-robin the top-four teams on the women’s and men’s side will progress to the play-offs. There will be one round of tie-breakers on Friday evening, if required, to establish those rankings.

The top two teams – ranked one and two – will then play each other at 09.00 (Central European Summer Time) in the gold medal games on Saturday 13 May. Also, at this time the teams ranked third and fourth will play each other.

The winner of those games and the losers of the gold medal games will then play in silver medal finals at 14.30 (CEST) on Saturday. This will decide the second women’s and men’s teams to qualify for the European Curling Championships B-Division.

This is the first event the Andorra Curling Association has held since the European Mixed Curling Championship in 2005.
