The B-Division women played their semi-finals on Friday morning at the Le Gruyère AOP European Curling Championships in Tallinn, Estonia.

Estonia reached the final at their home event with a 7-3 win over Turkey. Estonia opened the scoring in the second end and left Turkey without a chance to gain the upper hand.

A 10-8 victory over Lithuania booked Norway a ticket to the final. Lithuania were leading 6-2 after four ends, but Norway responded and secured the win.

These results see Estonia and Norway promoted to next season’s A-Division and head to the World Qualification Event in Naseby, New Zealand in January.

Men

In the same session, the men’s B-Division side played off for the remaining semi-final spots.

Denmark beat Estonia 8-7 to join Czech Republic in the first semi-final. Estonia took a 7-5 lead into the tenth end, but a three-points score for Denmark handed them the win.

Latvia came out 7-5 winners over Belarus to face England in the other semi-final. Three points in the final three ends gave Latvia the advantage in a game that was even most of the way.

In the semi-finals later, England sealed their spot in the final with a 9-6 win over Latvia. England gained the upper hand from the seventh end onwards and didn’t look back.

Denmark also reached the final by beating Czech Republic 8-6 in a game that went to an extra end. It was the Danish team that took two vital points to secure the victory.

Accordingly, England and Denmark will be playing in the A-Division next season and travel to New Zealand for the World Qualification Event.

In the relegation games, Wales secured their spot in the B-Division with a 12-10 victory over Turkey. Turkey were leading 10-8 after end nine, but a four-points score in the tenth end handed Wales the win.

France kept their hopes to remain in the B-Division alive with an 8-5 victory over Slovenia, their first win of the tournament. Three points in end nine were crucial to France’ success in an even game.

Turkey will now face France to determine who will remain in the B-Division and who will be relegated.

Slovenia meanwhile are relegated to the C-Division.
