Canada’s Team Jacobs win Pan Continental gold

Canada defeated United States by 7-3 on Sunday afternoon to win the final edition of the US Steel Pan Continental Curling Championships in front of a lively crowd at the Iron Trail Motors Event Center. Canada entered the final undefeated, while the United States had suffered just one loss, which came against Canada in an extra end earlier in the round-robin.

Canada opened patiently, blanking the first three ends before being forced to a single in the fourth for a 1-0 lead. In the fifth, United States skip John Shuster drew for two to move ahead 2-1.

Canada responded in the sixth when Brad Jacobs executed a double take-out to score two and regain a 3-2 lead. The Americans tied the game 3-3 in the eighth.

In the ninth, Jacobs capitalised with hammer to score two for a 5-3 advantage. In the tenth, with no scoring opportunity remaining, Canada marked a steal of two, sealing a 7-3 victory.

Jacobs said, “that was just a game of patience. We talked about that at the fifth-end break after giving up the deuce. We had a chance for a deuce ourselves early on and did not convert, which was frustrating. So it was about managing our emotions. I think that was a really professional win by our team.”

He added, “this event has been amazing. It has been a great experience all round for Team Canada.”

Silver medallist Shuster said, “you have to come out and play your best game. If you do not play perfect against those guys, you do not get to win.”
