On a recent visit to China, WCF President Kate Caithness had successful meetings with the Chinese Minister of Sport responsible for Winter Sports together with the Chinese Curling Association regarding the future development of the sport within China.

Oxana Slesarenko, member of Russia’s Wheelchair Curling team, which won gold at the 2012 World Championships in Korea, has been voted the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Athlete of the Month for February after leading her squad to the 2012 World Championship title in Chuncheon, Korea.

Russia won the gold medal at the World Curling Wheelchair Championship 2012 in Chuncheon, South Korea on Saturday defeating hosts Korea 9-1 in the final. The Koreans took the silver medal. China won the bronze medal, winning their game against Slovakia 7-4.

The Japanese junior women’s team (skipped by Sayaka Yoshimura) won gold at the 2012 Pacific-Asia Junior Curling Championships at the Hwasan Ice Rink in Jeonju, South Korea on Thursday beating Korea in the final 3-2. The Chinese junior men’s team (skipped by Xiuyue Ma) won the gold medal in the junior men’s event with a 3-2 win over Korea.

Team World clinched victory at the 2012 World Financial Group Continental Cup in the third end of the final Men’s Skins game. Canadian Skip Jeff Stoughton’s final stone was too heavy and left an opening for Norway’s Thomas Ulsrud to make the points he needed to win the skin and take Team World over the 201 point threshold required to win the event.

Team World is just one point away from winning the 2012 World Financial Group Continental Cup after taking the Women’s Skins game at the Langley Events Centre in Canada on Sunday morning, but if all the 55 points still up for grabs in the Men’s Skins game go to Team North America, the score will be tied.

In a suspense-filled evening session at the 2012 World Financial Group Continental Cup in Langley, Canada, Team World reached a total of 170 points and is now only 31 points short of the 201 needed to win the 2012 title. Team North America has 120 points. The evening Skins games, where 90 points were up for grabs (30 for each game), went down to the wire for both teams.
