Canada's Kaitlyn Lawes and John Morris became the first ever Olympic Mixed Doubles Curling gold medal winners at the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018 on Tuesday night.

Lawes and Morris defeated Switzerland's Jenny Perret and Martin Rios by a score of 10-3, in just six ends, in the inaugural Olympic curling mixed doubles final to claim gold and leave the Swiss with silver medals.

Canada had last stone advantage in the first end and had two stones in the house when Perret guarded the position with Switzerland's last stone of the end. Rather than risk any damage, Lawes threw her last stone wide and through the house as Canada settled to open with a score of two points.

In the second end, Switzerland scored two points of their own to level the game when Perret tapped up one of her own stones into a scoring position.

The first real break-through of the game came in the third end, when after Switzerland's Rios had a complete miss, Canada capitalised, eventually hitting out another Swiss stone to score four points for a 6-2 lead.

Attempting to fight back, Perret was eventually forced to draw her last stone of the fourth end into position to score just one point, giving Canada a 6-3 lead at the halfway break.

Canada extended their lead to 8-3 in the fifth end with a steal of two points when the Swiss could not find a way to tap out two Canadian stones sitting in the house.

In the sixth end, Perret's attempt to move a collection of Canadian stones that had built up in the house failed, giving Canada another steal of two points for a 10-3 lead, at which point Switzerland conceded the game.

Having both won in team curling at previous Olympic Winter Games, Canada's Lawes (2014) and Morris (2010) now join Sweden's Anette Norberg and her team (2006 and 2010) as the only curlers to have won two Olympic curling gold medals. Meanwhile, Perret and Rios' silver medal was a first medal for Team Switzerland at these Games.

Canada's mixed doubles team were coached by Jeff Stoughton, while Theo Schneider was the Swiss pair's coach.
