Sweden beat Switzerland by 9-3, while United States were 5-3 winners over Canada in Thursday evening's Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018 men's semi-finals, and these two teams will now contest Saturday's final for the Olympic gold medals.

Canada will face Switzerland for the bronze medals on Friday afternoon.

This is the first time in the modern era that teams representing these two Member Associations have made it to a men's Olympic final.

Sweden had topped the round-robin and took an immediate lead over Switzerland when their skip Niklas Edin drew his second stone of the first end into the house for two points. Switzerland's fourth player Benoit Schwarz could only respond with a draw for one point in the second end.

Sweden then blanked the third end and, when Edin hit out a Swiss stone in the fourth end, for a score of four points, his team took a 6-1 lead.

Switzerland could only score one point again in the fifth end, and when Edin played a hit and stay for two more points and an 8-2 lead in the sixth end, the Swedes were in clear control.

Schwarz attempted a double take-out in the seventh end but could only remove one Swedish stone, giving up a steal of one point. The teams played out an obligatory eighth end and when Schwarz scored one point with a nose-hit, Switzerland conceded, with a final score of 9-3 to Sweden.

The game between Canada and United States was closer. Canada blanked the first end and then the teams swapped singles points for the next four ends, to put them into the fifth end break tied at 2-2.

Canada then blanked both the sixth and seventh ends, looking for a break-through, but in the eighth, end their skip Kevin Koe was just light with his final draw-shot, to give United States a steal of two points and a 4-2 lead.

Canada scored just one point in the ninth end, to reduce United States lead to 4-3 but in the tenth end, United States skip John Shuster played a nose-hit with his final stone to score one point, win the game by 5-3, and line-up a gold medal final with Sweden.

The men's bronze medal game will take place on Friday (23 February) afternoon at 15:35 Korean Standard Time (KST) while the gold medal game will be played on Saturday (24 February) at 15:35 KST.
