WCF President appointed to new SportAccord Council

World Curling Federation President, Kate Caithness OBE, has been appointed to the SportAccord Council.

The SportAccord Council met by tele-conference on Wednesday 27 April 2016. The meeting was chaired by newly elected President, Patrick Baumann and confirmed the appointment of new members to the SportAccord Council as proposed by its stakeholders:

  • Patrick Baumann, FIBA Secretary General, (ASOIF)
  • Kate Caithness OBE, WCF President, (AIOWF)
  • Marisol Casado, ITU President, (ASOIF)
  • Raffaelle Chiulli, UIM President (ARISF)
  • Stephen Fox, IFMA Secretary General (AIMS)
  • Riccardo Fraccari, WBSC President (ARISF)
  • Gian Franco Kasper, FIS President, (AIOWF)
  • Nenad Lalovic, UWW President, (ASOIF)
  • José Perurena, IWGA President, (Associate Members)

    The new SportAccord Council addressed the distribution of responsibilities within the Council and elected Chiulli and Fox as Vice Presidents and Casado as Treasurer.

    Following an internal review carried out during the month of June by SportAccord President, Baumann and SportAccord Convention President, Francesco Ricci Bitti, the Council approved the combining of the Managing Director role for both organisations. As a consequence, the Council appointed the current Managing Director of SportAccord Convention, Nis Hatt, as Managing Director of SportAccord.

    Further, Philippe Gueisbuhler has been appointed as Head of Administration, overseeing the administration of both SportAccord and SportAccord Convention, and Michel Filliau as Senior Advisor to the SportAccord President in charge of Membership Relations. Matteo Vallini continues to lead the Doping-Free Sport Unit (DFSU) within SportAccord.

    The SportAccord Council also took the decision to create working groups to analyse the feasibility of hosting specialised multi-sport games in the future.

    Caithness has been President of the World Curling Federation since 2010 and also serves as a member on the International Olympic Committee's Olympic Programme Commission and its Coordination Committee for the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022.
