Östersund, the main city of central Sweden’s Jämtland region, is known as the country’s ‘Winter City’ and regularly hosts international winter sport championships. It is the third time that Östersund will host the World Junior Curling Championships following previous events in 2008 and 1999.

The city has produced several top curlers over the years including three-time world champion Peja Lindholm and his team and two-time Olympic Gold Medallist Cathrine Lindahl, sister and former team member of Anette Norberg. On the junior side, the reigning World Junior Men’s Curling Champions twin brothers, Alexander and Kristian Lindström are also from Östersund.
