Lohja, Finland named host of World Junior-B Curling Championships 2018

The World Curling Federation (WCF) has revealed today that the World Junior-B Curling Championships 2018 (WJBCC) will take place in the Kisakallio Sports Institute, in Lohja, Finland.

The event will run from Wednesday 3 to Wednesday 10 January 2018. This is the second time these championships will have been held in Lohja. The World Wheelchair Curling Championships were also held here in 2015, as well as the World Wheelchair-B and World Junior-B Curling Championships in 2016.

The WJBCC decides the final six teams for the World Junior Curling Championships 2018 (WJCC) – with the top three ranked women’s and men’s teams qualifying. WJCC 2018 will be held in Aberdeen, Scotland. That event will be played from 3 to 11 March 2018, between the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games 2018 in Gangneung, Republic of Korea.

WCF President, Kate Caithness, said: “We are pleased to be taking our World Junior-B Curling Championships back to the Kisakallio Sports Institute in Lohja, Finland.

“Thank you to the Finnish Curling Association for their enthusiasm in hosting these championships. Their experience running international curling events will go a long way to making this another first-class celebration of youth curling.”

Olli Rissanen, President of the Finnish Curling Association, said: "This is an honour for the Finnish Curling Association, and the continuing co-operation with the World Curling Federation and our most important partner here in Finland. The Kisakallio Sports Institute, is something special and high priority for the development of the Finnish curling."

Lohja is situated some 60 kilometres from Finland’s capital Helsinki. The facility is run as a non-profit foundation, which offers a wide variety of sports coaching, activities, educational courses and has excellent facilities for professional and amateur sports enthusiasts.
