Dr. Bill Murphy returned home to Liverpool Nova Scotia in 1956 to practice dentistry. His commitment to the local economy led to the establishment in 1964 of Mersey Seafoods Limited which remains a cornerstone of the region today. Champions for and of the community, Bill and his wife Janet established the J & W Murphy Foundation to support arts and culture, health care and youth across Nova Scotia, with special emphasis on Queens County.

Queens Place Emera Centre

Queens Place Emera Centre, municipally owned and managed, acts as the hub of recreational, social and cultural activity in the Region of Queens Municipality. Opening December 2011, this facility is located approximately 1.5 hours from Nova Scotia’s major population centers, such as Halifax, the Annapolis Valley and the Yarmouth regions. The facility boasts a state of the art fitness centre, indoor track, meeting areas and great outdoor spaces in and around the property that include the new Mersey Skate Park. The arena at Queens Place has played host to long resume of major events over the years, including the Canadian Junior Curling Championships in January 2014.

The Liverpool Championship Host Society is excited to showcase our community and this highly regarded multipurpose facility once again, this time playing host to the curling World!
