The round-robin stage of the World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship 2017 concluded with session 27 on Thursday (27 April) afternoon at the ATB Centre in Lethbridge, Canada with wins for Czech Republic, USA, Scotland, Switzerland and Bulgaria.

Scotland, Switzerland and USA secured wins in the final session of round-robin play to complete their round-robin stage undefeated and at the top of their groups.

USA confirmed their undefeated place at the top of Group D with an 8-6 win over Canada. USA opened the scoring with four points in the first end after a precise raised take-out by Rebecca Hamilton, with the final stone of the end. Canada scored two points in the second end and levelled the score with a steal of two points in the third end.

In the eighth end with USA leading 7-6 and holding the hammer, Canada’s Joanne Courtney played a perfect raise with their final stone to sit shot stone and potentially take the game into an extra end. However, USA’s Rebecca Hamilton responded with an equally perfect draw to the button with the game’s final stone for the single point and the 8-6 victory.

Scotland defeated Italy 8-4 in a game that was levelled at 3-3 going into the fourth end break. However, Scotland took control in the second-half. Scotland scored two points in the fifth and seventh ends before a single point steal in the eighth end secured their win and top place in Group B.

Switzerland defeated New Zealand 7-4 to hold the top spot in Group E. Switzerland scored three points in the first end to take a lead they would hold for the rest of the game before running New Zealand out of stones in the eighth and final end.

Czech Republic defeated France 11-3 after six ends, where they opened the scoring with five points in the first end and closed it with a score of four points in the sixth end.

In the session’s final game Wales conceded before the game began, giving Bulgaria the win.
