Flims, Switzerland – 10 March 2010: Day five of play in the junior women’s competition at the World Junior Curling Championships saw unbeaten Canada secure a place in the 1 v 2 playoff scheduled for Friday evening.
Sweden, Russia, Switzerland and the United States remain contenders for the other three places with only one draw of the round robin left.
The morning draw on Wednesday was full of surprises as Russia beat Sweden 7-4. France’s Marie Coulot had the homeside Switzerland on the run, taking four points in the fourth end and going on to win 8-2. The Czech Republic caused upset for the Americans in winning their game 7-4. China and Germany battled all the way through to a tenth end where the Chinese stole the point they needed to win 5-4.
In their game against Canada the Scots trailed all the way through to the eighth end where they took three points and tied the game 6-6. Canada blanked the ninth and secured a point in the tenth to win 7-6.
At night, Sweden was back on winning form and beat France 11-4. Canada dominated the Czech Republic to win 9-3. Scotland won their game against China 8-2. Russia took on Germany and won 6-4. In a game that went to an extra end, the USA came through to beat the Swiss 8-7.
