Standings after Round Robin Junior Men’s Draw 1
RUS-SWE 9-7, CHN-USA 5-3, DEN-SUI 7-8, SCO-NOR 3-9, CAN-FIN 6-2
At the opening day of the World Junior Curling Championships in Flims Switzerland, the first junior men’s round robin draw saw Norway strike out an early lead in their game against Scotland with a steal of one in the first end and a steal of four in the third end. Scotland struggled to catch up and the game ended on 9-3.
The Norwegian’s, skipped by Steffen Mellemseter, were sporting chequered blue and white pants, following the new trend set by Thomas Ulsrud and the Norwegian Men’s team who took silver at the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver.
In other games, the home crowd gathered in Waldhaus Flims arena were able to cheer the Swiss junior men’s team to a win against Denmark 8-7. Sweden beat Russia 9-7 and Canada defeated Finland 6-2.
After a defensive start, the USA opened the score against China in the fifth end with a steal of one. The game went into the 10th end with the Chinese taking three and winning 5-3.
