The World Curling Federation – at the sixth World Curling Congress, taking place in Bled, Slovenia – can confirm that a brand new annual, four-leg, World Series of Curling, will be introduced from season 2018-2019.

This news comes after the World Curling Federation signed a funding agreement with China based company, Kingdomway Sports, who are to invest more than $USD 10 million over a four-year period.

These proceeds will be used for the World Series and to develop curling worldwide in the lead up to the 2022 Olympic Winter Games, in Beijing, China.

The initial concept for the World Series of Curling was developed by the World Curling Federation and its marketing partners, Infront Sports & Media.

The World Series of Curling will have one leg hosted in each of the World Curling Federation’s regional zones. The first leg will be hosted in China, in the Pacific-Asia Zone, the second leg in the European Zone and the third leg will be in the Americas Zone. The series will conclude at a Grand Final, in Beijing, China. China hosting two of the four legs is part of the funding agreement.

World Curling Federation President, Kate Caithness, said: “In December 2016 a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between ourselves and the Chinese Curling Association (CCA) for the development of curling in China. This included an agreement to fund the World Series of Curling.

“Since then, we have been in negotiation with the CCA. The CCA introduced us to potential sponsors and we are delighted to announce that we have now signed a multi-million-dollar contract with Kingdomway Sports for the period of the next Olympic Winter Games cycle from 2018 to 2022.

“This is a huge step forward for our sport and it marks the most significant step so far, that takes the World Series of Curling from a concept to it being realised and we look forward to our partnership with both the sponsor and the CCA.”

Kingdomway Sports are based in Xiamen, China and also work with the Chinese Curling Association, Chinese Winter Sports, Chinese football and basketball governing bodies and the Brazilian Football Association.

Mr. Wu Lei, CEO of Kingdomway Sports said: “Kingdomway Sports is a Chinese based company aimed at promoting sports. It’s our honour to become the funding partner of the inaugural World Series of Curling. We deeply believe that together with the World Curling Federation and Chinese Curling Association, we can contribute and promote curling in China and all over the world.”

We congratulate Kingdomway Sports, a Chinese based company, on becoming the funding partner of the first World Series of Curling and as we work towards 2022.
